Walking tests

Staff-completed measurement of gait, either recording the time taken to cover a set distance (e.g. 5/10/20/40 metres) or distance covered in a set time (e.g. 2/6/12 minutes) with the patient walking at their preferred speed, using their preferred walking aid

Walking tests Treadmill

Patient-completed and controlled measurement of gait, either recording the time taken to cover a set distance (metres or kilometres) or distance covered in a set time (e.g. 2/6/12 etc. minutes) with or without an incline, with the patient walking at their preferred speed

Webster Disability Scale

Staff-completed 10-item rating scale summarizing findings from a standardised clinical neurological examination into an overall index of disability. Clinical features rated on a 4 point scale: bradykinesia, rigidity, posture, upper extremity swing, gait, tremor, facies, seborrhea, speech and self-care. Total score out of 30 indicates severity of the disease

Western Ontario Shoulder Instability Index (WOSI)
Patient-completed 21-item quality of life scale representing 4 domains (physical symptoms, sport/recreation/work, lifestyle, emotions), each scored on visual analogue scales

Western Ontario Rotator Cuff Index

Wheelchair User's Shoulder Pain Index (WUSPI)

Patient-completed questionnaire of 15 items measuring pain and impact on function with 10 cm visual analogue scale and 'not performed' category. The lower the score the better function. Final score sum of the item scores and performance-corrected score when the 'not performed ' category has been included. The raw total score is then divided by those activities achieved and multiplied by fifteen

Wisconsin Gait Scale - WGS

The Wisconsin Gait Scale can be used to evaluate the gait problems experienced by a patient with hemiplegia following stroke. This can be used to monitor the effectiveness of rehabilitation training. The authors are from the University of Wisconsin.

WOMAC (Western Ontario and McMaster Universities) Index of Osteoarthritis
The WOMAC index is used to assess patients with osteoarthritis of the hip or knee using 24 parameters. It can be used to monitor the course of the disease or to determine the effectiveness of anti-rheumatic medication.

Wong-Baker Faces Pain Scales in Children of 3 years or older

Wong and Baker used a row of drawn faces to help a child describe the degree of pain being experienced. This can help monitor pain associated with medical interventions over time and help indicate the need for additional therapy
